�ֲ���ý, WOODS HOLE, MA—The public is invited to join the Marine Biological Laboratory (�ֲ���ý) for Discovery Day, a free family science fair and anniversary party on Wednesday, July 17 from 3:00 to 5:30 PM, �ֲ���ý Street in Woods Hole.  The event, held on the anniversary of the laboratory’s dedication in 1888, will feature hands-on science exhibits from �ֲ���ý scientists and students, a kids' scavenger hunt, live music by the Justin Beech Trio, face-painting, fish printing, and more.  �ֲ���ý president and director, Dr. Joan Ruderman will make remarks and cut a 125th anniversary cake, which will be shared with the crowd.

Continuous shuttle service will be provided from 3:00 to 6:00 PM from the �ֲ���ý's Devil's Lane remote parking lot (opposite 379 Oyster Pond Road) to �ֲ���ý's Lillie parking lot on Water Street in Woods Hole.  

Discovery Day is the latest in a series of special events celebrating the �ֲ���ý’s 125^th anniversary. The theme of the anniversary is “Celebrating the Next Generation.”

The �ֲ���ý was founded in 1888 as an independent institution for teaching and research. Primarily a summer laboratory in its early years, today a corps of approximately 300 scientists and support personnel pursue biology, biomedicine, and environmental science research year-round.  They are joined each year by more than 300 visiting scientists, summer staff, and research associates from hundreds of institutions around the world.

Each year the �ֲ���ý trains more than 550 students as part of its advanced, laboratory-based education program. Educational programs also include undergraduate and independent research, graduate training, the Brown-�ֲ���ý Graduate Program in Biological and Environmental Sciences, postdoctoral training, and community continuing education programs.
